Hotel De Walvisvaarder - Lies, Netherlands     

Put simply, there wasn't anything you could fault at De Walvisvaarder. I stayed here with five girlfriends for a weekend break. The staff are very friendly and nothing seems too much hassle to them. We stayed in a luxury room which was spacious and nicely furnished. The bathroom had a bath and separate shower. The breakfast buffet offered a decent choice and the coffee was worth a mention. We had dinner on the day of arrival. This was a three course meal and although there wasn't a choice, all the food was delicious and good value for money. We had the use of a bicycle each which was great for exploring the island. There is a bus stop outside the hotel making public transport another good option. The beauty salon offers a wide range of treatments and there is a sauna too. We had a fantastic weekend and would definitely consider staying again.

Very friendly staff. Excellent facilities - free sauna and bikes to hire for very reasonable price! Breakfast buffet was wonderful - everything you could possible want! I recommend eating in the hotel in the evening - a set menu with salad buffet which changes every day. Food was wonderful and such good value! Roaring open fire in the centre of the bar where locals play live music in the early evening. Most people were Dutch or German but everyone was really nice to us Brits and spoke English. Also recommend walking to the nearby Hoorn which had nice restaurants, and cycling through the forest areas. Buy a map from reception. Room was large, spotlessly clean, with a small terrace where we sat in the evening. Lovely bathroom with shower and bath. And all for £60 per night!!
