Better Than Expected

I stayed with my daughter for 3 nights at the end of June. I read the reviews but knew that other hotels were way too expensive so I used our Starwood points and took a chance. The Hotel is less than 10 minutes (walking) from the beach or the 4th Street Promenade (shopping/movies/ restaurants). Its easy to get on or off the highway and directly on the busline to any other area. The pool area was fine after a hot day of touring colleges or walking the Santa Monica streets. The room was fine for the 3 of us. We never ate at the hotel. I wish they served coffee in the lobby in the morning. We used the free shuttle to take us near Venice Beach but otherwise just walked all over. I would stay here again if I had the chance.

I am really mixed on this hotel. The staff is super nice but the hotel is just ok. Stay away from the 2nd floor rooms. They smell of smoke. Seems this was the smoking floor yet it is "non-smoking" now. Just like any hotel, if you check in late you are stuck with the leftovers.... and the left overs dont taste as good. If you are going to arrive late you might want to request a specific room so you dont get put on the 2nd floor or next to the elevator. I think I might stay somewhere else next time.
