Columbia - Ravenna, Italy 

This is a bucket and spade hotel with tiled floors, pine beds that squeak when moved and very basic 1970's furniture (no, it's not retro, it's original!) The bars at the windows really added to the Gulag feel of the place. The heating is efficient, but too hot for British travellers in March. Small portable TV, no English channels, no tea/coffee, sparse well washed towels and one tablet of soap provided along with 2 sachets of shampoo (the like I haven't seen since school swimming trips in the 1970's) Bed was hard! Plastic chairs inside the room and the hard environment of the furnishings made it very difficult to feel any comfort. Safety wise, the glass in the 7 foot high balcony doors was single glazed and would definately not come up to English standards, I would be very uncomfortable in this room with a young child. Also the radiators were dangerously too hot for a child running around. Breakfast was very sweet, only tarts, pastries, buns and sweet croissants. Coffee excellent. Evening meal was traditional but not that cheap but fairly good quality. Considering the website's rather rosy outlook of the place I felt let down. I was here for a last minute conference and it was the last hotel left in town (which tells a tale) I would not return.

Es ist ein 08/15-Hotel mit Kachelfußboden, quietschenden Kieferbetten und sehr einfachen Möbeln im Stil der 1970er Jahre (und nein, es ist kein Retrostil, sondern noch original!). Die Gitter vor den Fenstern haben die Gulag-Atmosphäre dort nur noch verstärkt. Die Heizung funktionierte, aber selbst für Briten war es für März zu warm. Kleiner portabler Fernseher ohne englische Sender, keine Tee- oder Kaffeemaschine, alte, abgenutzte Handtücher und ein Stück Seife und zwei Tütchen Shampoo (die habe ich seit meinen Schulschwimmstunden in der 1970ern nicht mehr gesehen). Das Bett war hart! Das Zimmer war mit Plastikstühlen ausgestattet und die kalte Einrichtung machte es einem unmöglich sich wohl zu fühlen. Bezüglich Sicherheit, die Glasscheibe der knapp 2m großen Balkontür war einfach verglast und hatte definitiv keinen englischen Standard. Wenn ich ein kleines Kind dabei gehabt hätte, dann hätte ich mich in diesem Zimmer nicht sehr wohl gefühlt. Auch die Heizkörper waren sehr gefährlich, weil viel zu heiß für Kinder. Das Frühstück war süß, es gab nur Gebäck, Kuchen, Brötchen und süße Croissants. Der Kaffee war aber exzellent. Das Abendessen war traditionell, aber nicht billig, die Qualität des Essens war aber gut. Ich war enttäuscht, vor allem wenn ich bedenke, in welchen Farben das Hotel auf der Webseite beschrieben wurde. Ich hatte hier in letzter Minute für eine Konferenz gebucht und es war das letzte Hotel, wo noch ein Zimmer frei war (ich weiß jetzt auch warum). Ich würde nicht noch einmal in dieses Hotel gehen.
