Hotel Smit - Amsterdam, Netherlands 

We booked for 2 nights through a discount hotel website (cant remember which one) and got a good deal. The beds in this place are so comfortable, we slept vey well on the very soft matress. I would rate it a 3 star hotel as it is getting slightly run down. The 2-in-1 shampoo/body soap wasn't a hit with me. The staff are friendly and the location is so central. A 3 min walk to the main centre of food/affordable shopping.... The streets that surround the hotel have designer stores which therefore has people who can afford to shop there. Making it very safe at night, and very pleasant during the day.... Worth mentioning that they provide free internet... We didn't have breakfast there, instead went to Vondle Park to a delightful cafe on both mornings.

This must be the worst hotel I ever stayed in. I am Dutch but live in London and for work, I need to travel to Amsterdam on a very regular basis. The room is indeed extremely small, but I could live with that. It was the street noise (bad insolation), room noise (slamming with doors and windows at 2am-3am) and works at a building next door that started at 7am that was totally unexceptable. It was as if the works were actually happening in my room. I got up from missery and checked-out at 7.45 as I couldn't bare it! I complained at reception and they were aware of all these matters. I received their excuses but that was it. If you want to spend that kind of money, you are far better of to stay in a B&B.
