Mercure Palermo Centro - Palermo, Italy     

I agree with most of the other reviews. It is a modern hotel with efficient staff, good location, great bathroom (yes the shower door leaked a little bit), very clean and comfortable and so all in all, good value for money. We also arrived late on a Sunday night having taken the airport bus to Politeama then a very short walk from there. Not knowing Sicily, we weren't sure whether we'd find anywhere for dinner but we needn't have worried - it was just getting warmed up, even at 11pm on a Sunday night! Lots of bars and restaurants to choose from, all a short walk from the hotel. The staff will help you out with this. Just one thing about the airport bus - it looked like a tourist coach which had us confused for a bit.

THis Hotel is in central city location. A few blocks / mins walk from airport bus stop. Get off at main square Plazza Castelnuovo or also known as Politeama. Bus goes onto central station after. We arrived at 11PM and walked to Hotel. Safe / Busy well lit streets. Very comfortable at this time of night. Experienced area around hotel often late in evening and always seemed safe and friendly. Bag snatches can be a threat in any city though. The Hotel seems to have a mixture of Business and tourists and seemed ideal for both. A good buffet breakfast is available until 10am and included in price. (Bacon and egss only hot but very good continental choice) Rooms are not typical Mercure decoration with more chic appearance. Good size, many with balcony be it street view, some without. Very helpful reception staff. No restaurant but a great local choice is just mins away. Turn right out of Hotel on street hotel is on. Walk 3 mins towards water front there is a Pizzeria 'La Mensa Del Popolo' It is very busy and popular with locals. Great pasta and pizza and great price. Busy inner garden. Ask the reception staff for direction... Its good popular and local. Hotel is about 20 mins walk to central station but most tourist sights and markets are easy walk. As always bad TV choice of English channels BBC news and CNN only, and of course the trademark Mercure leaking shower cabinet.. But other than that Good hotel and value for money.
