Borgo San Felice address: Loc San Felice, Castelnuovo Berardenga, EH15 3AS

Borgo San Felice details: Situated in the heart of Chianti, the hotel lies on a hill 350 metres above sea-level, only 15 km from Siena, one hour from Florence and 2 and a half hours from Rome.

Set amid straight rows of vines and olives, the hotel occupies a privileged position surrounded by the woods on the steep slopes of the high Chianti Mountains, the imposing castles in the vicinity, and the vineyards and hills descending towards the Crete Senesi.

The surrounding area contains a wealth of Romanesque churches and Chianti abbeys, including San Salvatore, the Pontignano Charterhouse, Santa Maria a Pacina and Meleto. Towns in Chianti, such as Castelnuovo Berardenga, Gaiole, Radda and Castellina feature castles and other historic sights.

The facilities at San Felice include tennis courts, pitch and putt green, and mountain bikes (you can follow signed botanical trails to enjoy the perfumes and aromas of the local flora and aspects of the region's insect and wild life).

San Felice also boasts a Health Centre offering Wine Therapy: these new anti stress, slimming, purifying and skin treatments rely on the therapeutic and beneficial properties of wine and grapes, which have been scientifically proven over the past decade.

Rooms

The hotel has 43 rooms, including elegant suites. The whole of the hotel is in the typically sober Tuscan style. You can stay either in the main palazzo on the hamlet's small piazza or in the Medieval houses with their characteristic arches, loggias and stairways. Some rooms have beautiful views, encompassing the sinuous rhythm of Chianti hills towards Siena and the high peak of Monte Amiata beyond. Other rooms have charming views of the stone-built hamlet and its lanes.

The rooms are furnished with quality, hand crafted and antique Tuscan furniture. The sizes of the rooms vary from building to building, reflecting in their authenticity, the uses to which they were put in the past. more info ...

Dining

Poggio Rosso serves elaborate and innovative dishes that never lose sight of typically Tuscan values. The two basic protagonists are Chianti Classico extra virgin olive oil and wine.

The restaurant combines Chianti cuisine with a touch of creativity to improve and stimulate a new tradition linked to the roots, which have never been abandoned.

In order to achieve this objective, only the highest quality ingredients are used. The wine list includes various Sangiovese wines, which accompany the dishes on the menu well, as well as Chianti Classico wines and Brunello di Montalcino. The wine list is extensive and well-researched, including over five hundred labels

We stayed at Borgo San Felice Oct 8th and 9th.We paid for a double deluxe room and when we arrived I thought the room was much smaller than the double deluxe we stayed in 2 years ago at the same property. When I asked if they had a larger deluxe the surly girl at the desk said."No.but if you'd like to pay more I can show you a Junior Suite.Check the room out first. For 350 Euros,it's anything but a great deal.I asked the front desk what was the earliest we could get coffee in the morning. They told us 7 A.M.The first morning was fine and the shorter darker haired waiter not only made the coffee but carried it to the room for me.World class. When I got to the dining room at 7 AM on the sec ond morning, the taller blonde waiter told me come back at 7:30 as there is no coffee until then. When I explained that the front desk said I could have coffee at 7,he told me to have the front desk get it as he wouldn't.What a jerk.Beware as the staff has gotten more surly since 2 years ago.

My wife and I have just returned from three days at Borgo San Felice and were thrilled with our stay. If you are looking for an out of the way historic Tuscan property perfect for relaxation then this is it. Somewhat guilty about leaving the kids behind even for a short while it was important to us that we made the most of the little time we had. In this regard this hotel gave us all we could have asked for. The grounds are pristine and beautiful and there is a sensational pool area. Nothing was too much trouble for the manager and his staff and we find it impossible to understand the comments in other reviews. In particular our room was superbly equipped and the bed divine (and I stay in a lot of hotels). The restaurant is elegant and the staff efficient. They are happy to engage with the diners but the ethos seems to be to allow the guests their privacy - you can't please everyone. The food was very good indeed seeking to stay faithful to Tuscan cuisine. We would have happily eaten our way through the entire menu if we had only had time! Needless to say the wine list is superb and the wine ceremony for a quality red a delight to behold! We would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking relaxation in the beautiful Chianti countryside!
