La Salina Hotel Borgo Di Mare - Lingua, Italy
Address: Via Manzoni Snc,
Lingua, 98050
The main points of interest are: Malfa, one of the main centres of the island, which is 9 km from the hotel; Rinella, another small town, with a beautiful tourist port (14 km from the hotel); Fossa delle Felci mount, which is the highest peak of the Aeolian islands, ideal for trekking.
Salina island is one of the 7 Aeolian Islands. It has set up a nature reserve to protect 2 extinct volcanoes, covered with thick vegetation: Fossa delle Felci and Monte Pirri. The Greeks called it Didyme (twins) because of the presence of these volcanoes, separated by the plateau of Valdichiesa.
Salina still cultivates its fields and increases its production of malmsey, capers which are a symbol of the island. The present name derives from the saline, now a brackish lake, which extends along the coast towards Lipari. There are 3 principal villages: the districts of Santa Marina, Malfa and Leni.
