Location
Geysir is the world’s oldest known geyser and one of the most impressive. Eruptions can hurl boiling water up to 60 metres into the air. Eruptions may be infrequent, and have in the past stopped altogether for years at a time, but currently they are occurring about three times a day on average.
Thingvellir was made a national park in 1928 because of its historical importance and because of its special tectonic and volcanic environment. Cracks or faults run throughout the area, the largest, Almannagjá, being a veritable canyon.
