New Inn Hotel details: The New Inn, situated a few miles away from Settle, is an 18th century coaching inn that has been lovingly and carefully restored to offer quality accommodation.

Set in the magnificent Yorkshire Dales National Park, this hotel offers high standards of accommodation at affordable prices and is ideal for visiting many places such as the Lake District, Leeds and Lancaster, or enjoy a trip on the Settle/ Carlisle Railway.

In the Main Bar can be seen a collection of caving cartoons by Jim Eyre, one of the local early cave explorers. In the Lounge Bar are many tapestries all made by Barbara and several ‘New Inn’ themed cartoons by Lakes cartoonist Ken Mosley. The restaurant has original paintings, several having a West Riding industrial theme. The proprietor's lifelong interest in cycling, caving and running is reflected in many of the numerous photographs and prints which can be seen around the building.

Location

The New Inn is set in the magnificent Yorkshire Dales National Park with its dramatic peaks, delightful dales, rivers, waterfalls and caves and situated in the centre of the charming village of Clapham. Over thousands of years water erosion through the limestone has formed many amazing sights, such as Ingleborough Cave (1 km/ 0.6 miles), which is festooned with stalactites and stalagmites and Gaping Gill (3 km/ 1.9 miles), the most dramatic of North Yorkshire's pot holes where water hurtles down in a single jet over 365 ft to the floor.

An exotic collection of trees, bushes and plants, many of them brought from the East by Reginald Farrer, the botanist, can be seen by the lake at the top of the village and along the nature trail.

On the doorstep are the most wonderful walks and you can explore the impressive countryside of the Yorkshire Dales or visit the Lake District (12 km/ 7.5 miles) with Bowness and the Windermere Steamers only a 40-minute drive.

Dining

Head chef Andrew Whaley uses local produce wherever possible. Milk and cream is from the cows seen in the fields of Clapham, processed at the dairy down 'The Green' and delivered daily. Eggs are from Keasden and Game is purchased from local gamekeepers when available. Our main supplier of ales is Dent Brewery, whose beers are produced using only spring water.
