Locanda dello Spuntino - Grottaferrata, Italy 

We were looking for a hotel close to the airport (FCO) in Rome (for a flight the next day), but didn't want to stay at an "airport hotel." We discovered this hotel on Tripadvisor, and booked the room through Venere. This is a small Locanda (10 rooms) situated on a side street In Grottaferrata a short drive from Frascati (another good Rome stopover town). It took us about 40 minutes to drive to FCO airport the next morning. Our room was small, but charming. The bathroom was as large as the bedroom, modern and very well equipped. The hotel itself is charming, and the employees very helpful. The restaurant attached to the hotel was fabulous. We arrived late at 3:00 PM, and had lunch. A little pricey by Basilicata standards (where we had spent the prior week), but the quality was quite high. The ambiance is also unique, smoked hams hanging from the ceiling, high beamed ceilings, piles of food on display. I asked to see a wine list, and the waiter suggested the house wine. I found it to be delicious, and it went perfectly with the the three samples of different pasta, and the osso buco. This ia a charming boutique hotel in a small hill town just outside of Rome, and I would stay there again without hesitation. It would also serve (as does Frascati) as a good Rome base using the train from Frascati to visit Rome during the day.
