Hotel Costa Doria - Castelsardo, Italy 

We booked the Costa Doria hoping to have the view as shown on their website of Castelsardo but this was not to be. They are misleading the public into believing that the town can be seen from the hotel when in fact it is approx 2 miles away and behind the cliffs. The hotel pool though full of water but not very appealing because it was green. In fairness to the hotel it wasn't stagnant and didn't harbour any mosquitos (well not yet anyway) Not sure about its claim to have a private beach (it seemed very public) and the use of beach umbrellas was not made apparent. Free parking? that was a space on the road if you were lucky. Our car was severely dented and the door scratched in what they could claim to be their car park ...... a lay-by outside their frontage. Air condition in the room consisted of an apparatus on the wall that was fired up with electricity to move the warm room air slowly around the room. We arrived late on a Sunday night approx 11pm (no offer of a meal was made). Those are the bad points out of the way. Our room was large, it had a kitchen (though the fridge barely worked) it was a pleasant extra, the balcony was large and had the sun on it all day, the only down side was that we faced the busy road. We were on half board basis but the hotel reception were unsure of the meal routine and told us we could eat in the restaurant chosing from the a la carte menu and the food was excellent. We ate there for two nights before the penny dropped and we were then told to eat inside the hotel dining room. After the two previous nights dinners we were apprehensive of the food we would be given. The choice was from two starters and two main meals and these though not to the restaurants very high standard were of good quality and standard. No complaints here. The staff in the dining room are helpful and friendly. Breakfast is taken in a cellar pizzeria place and is fine. There are cakes if wanted but cereals, bread, cheese, ham, fruit, toast with jams etc were all on offer. Overall the hotel is clean and tidy and bright, the staff very friendly. Our room was cleaned every day, and given fresh towels daily. Would we go again, probably not and that is down to the misleading photographs and text relating to its position in Castelsardo.
