4.1This was our first stay at Hotel Annalena, and the rates during the week were a fantastic value for Florence. The hotel occupies the whole floor of a building, and the lobby is tastefully decorated and has soaring ceilings and an airy feeling complemented by the soft classical music they play and is a pleasant place to sit and read or unwind after a day of sightseeing. The room we had was clean, warm & spacious with very high ceilings & a window facing the back of the property with greenhouses and gardens. There was some occasional noise from the neighboring rooms which you could hear mainly through the bathroom & hallway due to the fact that it is in a historic building, but the hotel wasn't full, so it was mostly quiet. the best part is the breakfast, which was the best complementary breakfast i have ever had. there was bread, croissants, cheese, ham, butter, cream cheese, plain yogurt, fruit yogurt, fruit, honey, preserves, cereals, milk, juices, water, a selection of tea, espresso, excellent cappuccino, even pate - all beautifully presented on silver serveware. the staff was young & friendly, speaks enough English and they have internet access in the rooms. the sign outside is very small and you have to walk up one flight of stairs and through a gallery to reach the property, but if you have the street address, you should be able to find it ok as we did. it is very near the Palazzo Pitti and a short walk to the Arno river and Ponte Vecchio. The street has many antique shops, and there is a popular pizzeria nearby as well as a hairdresser, taxi stand and a tabaccheria to buy stamps. This was the best value for Florence and we would definitely stay there again.
