Residence Hilda - Florence, Italy

We had a wonderful stay at Residence Hilda. We traveled with an 18 month old child and a 13 year old, and the accommodations at RH were perfect for our needs. Having a kitchen to prepare meals for our young son was incredibly convenient, especially since most Florence restaurants don't open for dinner until 7 or 7:30 PM. The staff stocked our fridge with milk upon request at no charge, and also provided a high chair and a crib at no extra charge. They even provided a small teddy bear in the crib, which was a nice touch. The apartment felt spacious and open. The location was perfect for our needs, very close to the Academia and the Duomo. There is a small market down the street for groceries or travel necessities, and a couple of cafes nearby, one that serves American breakfast and one next door that has pastries and good coffee. The only downside is that the units facing the street, as ours was, are exposed to loud people returning from bars late at night. The soundproofing was actually quite good otherwise, as we never heard any of the other people in the residence, although I saw many people come and go. Also, there is free wireless internet access, but the access code provided is only good for an hour at a time, after which you have to re-enter the code again. But the wireless worked flawlessly otherwise.

Wonderful service in setting up our reservation, very helpful and responsive. Francesco gave us a warm welcome on our arrival and was so helpful with information and services such as grocery shopping, museum reservations, directions and restaurant suggestions. The rooms (apartments) are spotless, spacious and modern, a home away from home. The hotel is situated in a terrific location only a few blocks from the major attractions. There is also complimentary wireless internet (the front desk will give you a Wi-Fi card with an access code - we used this for three days). We would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Residence Hilda and will return on our next visit.

Why would you stay anywhere else?

We spent three nights at the Residence Hilda in late May, and I couldn't tell you how much we loved our air conditioning in that Florence heat. BTW, air conditioning worked superb. The Hilda is very much apartment like. Although each “suite” has a kitchen, the property itself does not have a kitchen or kitchen staff. For breakfast, we had vouchers for a cafe (the o.k. caf?? I think) across the street which was generous and delicious. The front desk is not 24 hour, although I believe there's an emergency number you can call after hours. The front desk did however perform concierge type duties, like making restaurant reservations for us, which helped a lot considering we speak little Italian. The rooms are immaculate. Huge and white and clean. And the windows are thick to keep out all the Florence street noise. We requested a iron, and they brought it up with a jug of distilled water. They think of everything. Oh, doesn’t have wifi access. Internet yes, but no wifi. That would have made the trip. Loved it!
