4.4I was staying with friends in Rome and they decided to go to Venice (where I had previously traveled) and I decided to go to Florence to see the museums, churches, and other works of art; we had joked about the samll size of my room at an upscale Roman hotel(220E per night); arriving at the Duomo, I had to laught when I discovered that my room there was even samller; however, the configurations was excellent and given the fact that it was for only one night and I spent minimun time in it, it was almost perfect; it was spotless and all electronic controls were accessible from the bed, including an excellent ceiling mounted digital TV; although the location of the hotel is central to the town (and a few minutes walk from the train station, as represented,) I had to circle the duomo twice and ask several merchants, before finding it, due to the numerous small alcoves and streets running off of the duomo piazza. The next morning I had two pleasant surprises: first the upscale continental breakfast was excellent, with hot drinks (i..e. coffee, tea etc)made fresh for each diner; I departed at 9:00am for a planned 12 hours of walking tours, prior to a 9:30pm departure of my train trip to rendezvous with my friends and a return to Rome; my only concern was a place to store my luggage for the days stroll around Florence when to my very great surprise the lady asked if I would like to leave them at the hotel for the day! Again, given the obviously central location of the hotel and the fact that I would be criss crossing the area several times during the day, it could not have been more convenient; highly recommended for the short term traveler; I will return to Florence again and will definately stay at the Hotel Duomo again, as well....wj
