Grupotel Macarella - Ciudadela, Spain 

I stayed here for a week with a friend, and we both though that the hotel was lovely. Our apartment was on two levels with the bedroom downstairs with a tiny balcony, and then upstairs to the lounge with two large balconies - one at either side of the hotel. We didn't do any cooking, but the kitchen did seem well equipped. The room was all very clean and well maintained. The maintenance is probably helped by the fact that the season in Menorca only lasts from May-Oct, so lots of time to ensure that everything is completed. We loved the resort, and the hotel is in a great central location, but is also quiet. The resort is full of families, and we were 2 girls, but we had realised that Menorca is a calmer island, so this was not a problem. There are lots of good restaurants around the marina, and a few bars. No nightclubs here. There are a few bars which open until 4, (and no music outside after 12) and this is strictly controlled. The police are forever passing by in the early hours of the morning, but this was never in a threatening manner though so I don't mean it in that way. Chaplins bar on the marina was always good until 4 - if you are planning to stay up that late. All in all a lovely hotel in a smart resort with a great choice of restaurants. But not a lot of shops.

My wife and I stayed in one apartment and my daughter, son in law and 2 year old child stayed in another. The staff at Reception worked hard to ensure that we had adjoining apartments and these had large and very safe terraces although the view was not the best they were excellent. We both had toasters and kettles in the apartments and I was not asked to pay extra for them. Perhaps I paid in my original booking! The apartments and resort are totally geared up for young families and if you do not have children in your party then this resort may not be for you. We hired a car from from Owners SA and unfortunately we had a puncture in the Hotel Car Park. Staff at Reception were very helpful in contacting the Hire Company for us and helped us to sort out the problem. Owners SA were also very good although this happened in the middle of their Fest Santa Joan which is a major holiday period and we received a change of car from them. We always ate out and as others have said there are many restaurants to choose from. We had drinks in the apartments' bar and they were no more expensive than drinks in the resort. There are 3 good beaches within short walking distance and these all have bars and restaurants in the vicinity. For a family we found this to be an excellent holiday.
