An independent, cosy family-run hotel with excellent views over to the harbour and some spectacular sunsets. Ask for as high a floor as possible. Offers far more than your average tourist hotel. Not especially luxurious but well appointed (pretty, traditional and interesting rooms with personal touches such as Naxian lace throws and antique furniture). Hot water and spotlessly clean. Simple but filling breakfasts of boiled eggs, fresh bread and preserves and natural yogurt with honey served from 8.00am-10.30am. Clientele mainly French and German. Popular with walkers and independent travellers. Excellently situated for the old town and a good base for exploring the whole island on bike, car, scooter or foot.
The whole of the main town is perched up steep, narrow, winding Cycladian streets which are absolutely charming but not recommended for the infirm.
Fantastic tourist information available at the Naxos Tourist Information Centre and a wide range of activities on offer on the island i.e. walking tours, photography tours, windsurfing, kitesurfing, vehicle rental.

Naxos was the 2nd Greek Isle my husband and I visited on our honeymoon. Upon arrival by ferry, we headed to the Tourist Information Office, as directed for check-in. We were greeted by Despina, the owner. She immediately offered us an upgrade to an apartment in town for no additional charge. We took the offer. Someone was called to help with luggage and escort us to our room. Once the room was unlocked, we were very pleasantly surprised with our upgrade. Our apartment had a sofa, bed, small kitchenette, and 1.5 bathrooms.... and a FABULOUS view over the city to the Temple of Apollo.
Despina was helpful with anything we needed. She helped us arrange a car rental, make reservations for horseback riding, recommended a charming taverna as well as a more touristy restaurant (both wonderful), and held our luggage for us after checkout until our ferry arrived.
