My girlfriend and I spent three days at Finnstown over the 2006/2007 New Year period. By Dublin suburb standards the hotel is good value. The golf apartments were a pleasant change from the main hotel and would certainly be a good choice if staying there in the summer. I personally liked the country house feel with a huge open fire in reception (very cosy) and the atmosphere of a stately home. The breakfast was great The main hotel building is a lovely old Irish country house with many period features, character rooms, good bar and relaxing reception rooms- the type of place you could smoke a pipe in (if that wasn't illegal!). One tip (if you are under the age of 35) is that there is a local pub just in front of the hotel which serves good meals and has a young feel to it. It can be a welcome change from the hotel as the age range of the guests seems to be of the 40 plus variety (as to be expected with this type of hotel). All in all I can report a very positive experience. We would certainly be very happy to return to the Finnstown if ever in that area.

I stayed at this hotel as part of a wedding party. On checking in, the reception staff said my booking had been cancelled becuase I didn't turn up the night before (I had called the week before and changed the booking, but this information didn't get passed on). Anyway, I got my room after a few minutes explaining what happened. The room itself was in a main house and was was lovely. A little small, but the furnishings were all very nice. And such a comfortable bed. Breakfast the next morning was more than ample... and I didn't see any signs of things running out even though I arrived only a few minutes before the official end of serving. The hotel is an old stately home, and full of antique furniture, open fires, and has a wonderful cozy feeling about it. I didn't have time to check out the pool or spa facilities, but I would be tempted to stay here again the next time I am in the area.
