Romantikhotel Schwarzer Adler - Innsbruck, Austria 

The Swarzer Adler was very nice. The location was great for both business and pleasure, our room was spacious and nicely furnished and we enjoyed a fabulous bathroom. We really enjoyed the breakfast each morning and the staff couldn't have been nicer from the moment we checked in until we left. The bar is small and smokey at times, but since the weather was nice, we enjoyed our outside cocktails. The only objection was the nightlife noise from the nearby bars. But we will definitely stay here again when we get back to Innsbruck.

We booked the Schwarzer Adler given the great reviews we'd read on Trip Advisor but were sadly disappointed and would not recommend it. When we arrived we were greeted warmly but hurriedly by the receptionist who never put down her mobile phone, even while showing us to our room. The lift was not working so we all walked up to the third floor --- no problem for us. The room was clean although the furnishings were dated. The bathroom was pleasantly good sized and very bright. The bed was quite hard and uncomfortable and the air conditioner did not work, quite unfortunate given the warm summer weather. We ended up sleeping with our windows open which was a problem due to cigarette smoke from the outside terrace. We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant downstairs. The food, traditional Tyrolean fare, was well prepared and delicious. The serving staff was attentive and our waitress even shared a recipe with us from the chef. The real problems started in the evening. There were a number of drunk and unruly guests staying at the hotel after a football match, pounding on doors and yelling until all hours. We discovered (as did another reviewer) just how thin the walls are at this hotel. We were unable to sleep and were very unhappy the management did nothing (by their admission) to try to restrain the out-of-control guests. We brought it up to them twice, and hoped for a credit to our bill, but because we had prepaid they insisted it would be impossible to make any adjustments. The location is within a 10 minute walk to the train station, which is a plus, but there are many other fine hotels to choose from that are just as accessible.
