After hearing horror stories about the Basingstoke Hilton (urine soaked sheets on check in etc) decided to try this as a plan B. Glad I did. On the good side: big room, good desk, fair trade hot chocolate, nice front desk staff, good room service, nice toiletries. Unpleasant surprises: no airconditioning, lots of slamming doors, low to no value restaurant, loud and intimidating bar and only 8 free channels on the (beautiful) TV. Hotel health club was the best thing about the whole stay. Will return but hope restaurant and slamming door issue improve. An alternative drink/snack venue from the salesmen-gone-wild sports bar would be nice too.

I have read all the other reviews and i feel this is a fair reflection of our stay.
Hotel-This is unbelieveably a four star hotel, i think the AA need to get out and inspect a few more! At best this is a 3 star.
Main Issues-
No Air Con, When we stayed the temperature was about 20c and we had to have the veranda door open all night, it was so stuffy. Anyone staying in summer is going to have a major shock, above 25c and this room would have been unbearable-Also heard lots of other guests moaning about this.
Restaurant-We had a three course meal and a cheap bottle of wine, the bill came to ?95, this is the same price as a meal at Maze in London! The food was average and definitely not worth the money-simple steak and 8 chips was ?17.50! Breakfast was ok but have had far wider choices at hotels in Kent that have less stars. Staff in restaurant were decidely average and forget things when there were only 20 diners in the restaurant-Only one young lad made a real effort-Justin, your a credit to the hotel!
Check in Staff-Professional but very un warming, on leaving not one of them asked if the stay was ok-probably didnt want to face another criticism. It was however quick and efficient, would have been nice to have been made to feel welcome though (I noticed feedback sheets are not left to fill in, not surprising)
Bar Prices-A single vodka and lemonade was ?4.50 and in general the prices were very high, especially as your not given waiter service for this money. Bar staff again were professional but very cold.
Hotel in general-No charm, character or warmth it is basically a posh travel lodge, if you are looking for a romantic break away this is a definite no no.
Gym-Ok, they have most equipment and it wasnt busy, instructor was on site, not the same as a leisure gym but didnt expect it to be.
Positives-
Bedroom-Despite the lack of air con the room was ok, it was meant to be deluxe, more a standard in my view. It had good facilities was well decorated and very tidy and modern.
Spa treatments-My wife had a massage and said it was very good and professional. (you need to book these treatments at least 3 weeks in advance as you will not get any sessions if you dont. We booked 2 weeks before arrival and they had 1 half hour slot left! Surprising as it looked very quiet)
Business use-If you were looking for a place to stay as your on business then this would be ideal, as i said it really is a glorifed travel lodge.
Overall i was left dissapointed by what seems, according to other reviews, a great place to stay. Having stayed at over 30 south east hotels this place does not deserve such praise-you will see!
