Red Lion Hotel - Skipton, United Kingdom 

I had stayed at the Red Lion before and had loved the location and the food. the location is still great, of course and I found the food also to be very good. I have to agree with some of the previous comments regarding the service. At the moment the overwhelming majority of the front of house staff are young Bulgarians, all very pleasant as individuals, but many have a very poor command of English and the overall impression is that there is no one with whom you could discuss either the food or the surrounding countryside - walks etc. We had a problem with ordering two half bottles of wine from the menu, only to be - belatedly - informed that they don't have half bottles. And the coffee being served before the sweet is also annoying. The fact that the "reception" seems to be an office you have to stand at the door of doesn't help either. I feel that this is a great place which should sort out some of these problems before they spoil the reputation of the Red Lion

We have been visiting the burnsall / appletreewick area for years. We have always found the people very friendly and the landscape breath taking, however on a recent visit we had a very unfortunate experience with a member of staff who was incredibly rude - needless to say we will not be going there again - do visit the area however it is delightful.
