Casa Pucci is a nice place to stay- clean, quiet, nice rooms, and the breakfast was good. BUT you should not stay here when it is cold outside because due to some energy saving initiatives in Florence, they are required to keep the heat off for 6-8 hours a day (I assume they otherwise must pay a fine or a higher price for the energy). Since its a bit of a budget accommodation, they don't pay up for constant heat! It was literally freezing outside and I woke up in the middle of the night on the first night because it was so cold. I could deal with it because of the thick covers but my 2 year old was on her own in the spare bed. We had to bring her into the bed with us to be sure she was warm. We asked Signora Pucci to keep the heat on because I am up in the middle of the night with my newborn, and she said of course. But although it stayed on longer (and I assume it went on intermittently during the night), it was still pretty cold.
Another thing to note is that although Signora Pucci is always available (and is very nice and friendly), you have to go to the bottom of the staircase that leads to her private residence upstairs and call out "signora puuuucciiiii!" for her to come down (she does come down immediately and with a smile). It just gets old after a while and I felt kind of a bother to keep calling her downstairs when we needed something.
Other than these things, the place was nice, the rooms are very comfortable and have a lot of character, the bathrooms are very clean. The courtyard is ADORABLE and I wished it weren't so cold so we could eat at the outdoor table.
The breakfast was ample though you had to unplug the toaster to plug the microwave in. For the price, the overall value was very good. The location is also good- you are just down the street from Piazza Santo Spirito and you have an internet cafe, a market and numerous eateries on the very same street. From the train station Santa Maria Novella you can take the D line to Santo Spirito.
We enjoyed very much our stay at Casa Pucci. Our room (number 3) was spacious, well appointed, impeccably clean, air conditioned, and with plenty of hot water to shower. It opened to a garden court where breakfast was served, we had our own wine and cheese some evenings, and chatted with other guests. Signora Tamara Pucci and her son Matteo (who speaks English quite well) were always friendly and helpful. Location is excellent - within walking distance (15 minutes) of the main historical sites yet away from the tourist crowds. A small supermarket, a bakery, several trattorias, two Internet shops, and a laundromat are close by. We would love to come back!
Signora Pucci was very nice in the briefest of moments when we saw her. When we arrived, she showed us to our room without any explanations or even where breakfast would be served. It was too chilly in the morning for breakfast outside (I think that's the only public space). so she left us a tray to eat in our room. It would have helped to have had someplace to eat it rather than the bed! But the room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. We were able to come and go as we pleased and she allowed us to use her computer to check email etc.
