Palazzo Guiderocchi - Ascoli Piceno, Italy 4 star hotel

Address: Via Cesare Battisti 3, Ascoli Piceno, 63100
Palazzo Guiderocchi details:  A stone’s throw away from Piazza del Popolo, Palazzo Guiderocchi faces the famous Church of San Venanzio, built on the site of the ruins of an ancient Ionic temple. Once the home of a tyrant, over the years it has been a chancery, an ecclesiastic court and a notary archive. Today, following meticulous restoration it is a prestigious hotel, imbued with elegance and suggestiveness and ranks among the architectonic-monumental pearls of the whole region.

Just a step away from the splendid Piazza del Popolo, the heart of Ascoli, the doors of one of the most prestigious historic town buildings - hotel Palazzo Guiderocchi - have reopened.

Once the dwelling place of a local tyrant, and a historical burocratic headquarter, the building has been turned into a charming hotel with 40 rooms, a cafeteria with a warm and friendly atmosphere and the restaurant La Rua dei Notari, thanks to a major renovation of the palace and its frescoes.

All the furnishing has been attended to in the finest detail and all the guestrooms, although equipped with all comforts, have remained faithful to the palace's style.

For meetings and conferences of up to 100 people there is the Sala della Caccia (conference room).

Location

In the heart of the Marche region, set amid the crystalline waters of long sandy beaches and a host of artistic and natural treasures, stands the “city of a hundred towers” Ascoli Piceno.

The town has remained unchanged since medieval times and the Renaissance, and has hundreds of streets and buildings waiting to be photographed. Why not walk along the narrow streets and discover churches, convents and abbeys?

This is one of the most beautiful historic towns in Italy, where Romanic architecture mingles with baroque, renaissance and gothic buildings.

Rooms

40 rooms including business, classic, deluxe, junior suites and suites, all equipped with modern commodities that still maintain the building’s unaltered original style. The frescoes in some of the rooms, the tasteful fabrics and decorations, the coats of arms of the families that have owned this palace all make a stay here unforgettable.

Eventually found the hotel (our sat nav does not appear to recognize one way streets). Very impressive building, great location. Room was large although a little dimly lit, good heating which is very important in December! Staff were friendly and helpful. Christmas menu at the restaurant was better than expected and good value for money. We booked in advance and got half price rates for 3 of the 4 days we stayed there so it was all quite reasonable, not sure if I would be quite so satisfied paying full rate for 4 days.

We had a deluxe room with two beds. The room was very large, with a generous entry and separate entrance to the room itself and the bathroom (which was not a priority for us). The room had a vaulted ceiling with wood beams. The room was very dimly lit, even with all window coverings aside and all lights on. The bathroom was huge, but the shower had extremely poor water pressure. Our room was also adjacent to the lift (which is a good size); it was noisy late at night and early in the morning. The hotel has a restaurant with very good, reasonably priced food. However, the posted dinner hour was 19:30, but they did not actually open until 8pm. The breakfast room is very small for a hotel of this size, less than half the size of those of similarly sized hotels we stayed in. The selection is also less than what we found elsewhere. The architecture of the room, along with the size, did not (for us) make up for its shortcomings.
