We decided to stay at the Bear due to proximity to friends and the reviews they gave it. To be fair the main part of the hotel looked like the perfect place to house your wedding party, with a bar that has an extended opening and many of the rooms set away from the main building. We were in an annex part of the hotel, which it has to be said, was absolutely dire. Every movement from the rooms next door to the room above could be heard. This meant when the residents returned at 230 am and others awoke at 8am, the stampede of elephants disco dancing around us was truly painful. My advice would be to stay away from the annexed rooms.
The Breakfast however was fine, no complaints on that front.

Found the hotel by putting in "Romantic Nights Away", and have to say we were not disappointed. From the moment I called them to make the booking to when we left this morning, they are nothing other than helpful and kind.
We had room 9 which looks onto the road, thought it maybe noisy, but the road is very quiet at night and we had no problems at all. After reading comments on Trip Advisor I made sure I asked for a refurbished room, we ended up with a suite. It was large with fantastic decor. The bathroom not only had a huge shower, but a lovely bath at the other end.
The staff in the bar came over as friendly and helpful at all times.
The food in the restaurant could not be faulted in any way.
It was a lovely place to spend my birthday with my husband and we would go back again.
The hotel is now privately owned and I think they have spent a fortune bringing this hotel up to date, but have also kept a lot of the character in the building.
Worth visiting, just for a chilled out weekend....
