Hotel Bjork - Reykjavik, Iceland     

Hotel Bjork worked out perfectly for my stay in Reykjavik last week. I booked my long weekend through Icelandair, and as part of a package deal, was originally booked into Hotel Cabin. However, upon arrival, I was told that they were overbooked, but that Hotel Bjork had a room immediately available and closer to town. I was glad of the switch (for which I paid nothing extra and for which Hotel Cabin gave me a free breakfast AND a taxi ride to the Bjork) and really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It was a nice 15-20 minute walk from the center of town, but for a New Yorker, that is nothing. If you don't want to walk, there are plenty of buses that stop a block away from the hotel. My room was quiet and immaculate and had all the amenities one needs for a short trip (e.g. hair dryer, toiletries, and most important - blackout shades). I want to call attention to the absolute professionalism and warmth of the hotel staff, in particular, Dorota, who made reservations for me at the Blue Lagoon (don't miss this), a terrific massage, and a wonderful haircut and color. Don't miss out on the many art museums and galleries in Reykjavik and try to take advantage of the literary walking tour that takes place in July and August on Thursdays at 5 pm starting at the Main Library. And drink lots of coffee and take advantage of the variety of restaurants! The people are great -
