Park Inn Island Hotel Reykjavik is a typical business hotel, located about 1.5 kilometers from downtown Reykjavik. The rooms on the west side have a nice view of the bay. Services and staff are all satisfactory, the only problem is that if you go during the colder months (October through mid April) it can be a bit chilly walking to downtown. Being outside of the city center can be an advantage, however, if you're a light sleeper.

Sleepless night

We stayed at this hotel for 9 nights and it was mostly OK except that one night we were not able to get any sleep. The reason was that there was some sort of event at the Broadway club and the entire hotel was shaking. It was extremely loud even though we were on the 4th floor. No earplugs could help us sleep. We were kept awake until 4am! We stayed in the lobby of the hotel between 3 and 4am because it was slightly less loud there. There was one more person sitting in the lobby writing a letter of complaint to the manager. In the mean time a family of 4 checked out of the hotel. They were quite upset. We expected to get some sort of reiumbursement for the horrible night but that did not happen! I suppose we should have checked out of the hotel too at that point, however we had prepaid for the entire stay so we didn't really have that option. I would not recommend this to anyone who expects to get some sleep at night!

Be wary of the Broadway nightclub

We stayed at this hotel as a family in Feb 2008 (2 children, 8 and 11 years old) and had an ok experience, what you would expect from a 3* hotel some way out of the city, on 3 of the 4 nights. BUT beware the Broadway nightclub is situated directly under the hotel and on one night, in spite of being on the 4th floor, we were all kept awake until 1.30am by a DJ night. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone wanting a reliable nights sleep unless you specifically book a room on the top floor.
