Friendly Studio Apartments Make a Good Base for Reykjavik Posted: Thu, Sep 06 2007

We used Reykjavik as a "home base" for a portion of our week long trip to Iceland. As we have two children, we wanted a place with a refrigerator at least, and possibly other kitchen facilities, in order to be able to have breakfast "at home." Three Sisters has two guesthouses with studio apartments; the one we stayed in was a block from the waterfront. We stayed in two different apartments (initially, our room had bunkbeds and a double bed - the owner offered us a sunnier unit for subsequent nights, but it required a mattress on the floor for one child, so the first room probably suited us better). Both units were cosy (they're studios!) but were kitted out with dishes/ coffee maker (with coffee)/ pots, a table with chairs and a sitting area. I believe they have slightly bigger studios as there was a family of five staying there also. A small grocery store is just down the street, and our guesthouse was two or three blocks from the city center. We were able to park on the street, and Thor, the owner, directed me via phone to his location, meeting us outside at 1 am due to the lateness of our flight. We felt very welcomed in the big city, and were happy with our stay.
