This hotel has been awarded 4 stars; however, it is NOT upto 4 star standard (at least what one in most of Europe/North America would consider to be 4 stars).
The rooms are cramped, decor outdated, and there is NO climate control. As such rooms are very hot and a lot of the rooms have only very small windows that do not provide adequate ventilation. Accordingly, it is not possible to properly relax in the rooms and sleep can be difficult. Service levels left a lot to be desired. For example we arrived back after a full day excursion only to find that the rooms had not been serviced. Further, a meal was ordered from the restuarant menu and arrived only to not match the description on the menu. We were told that the menu had changed and that we should have been advised about this!
Staffing levels are minimal; e.g. a manager is not available to deal with guest issues on a Sunday. Customer service was non-existent in my view.
The breakfast buffet is not a full buffet by usual standards; it is a very nice selection of cakes and a toastie is also available. No bacon, eggs, sausage, or anything like that. 2 out of 3 days there was no jam available and on the last day there were no crossiants! Again this aspect of the stay was most dissapointing.
It is difficult to specify the good points of this hotel; as they are few and far between. That being said they do offer a complimentary transfer from the airport; and it is well located. Wireless internet is also complimentary (if a little slow).
Overall this hotel was very poor value for money and does not even begin to justify the 4 star rating awarded.

We stayed at the hotel for a single night in early April. Our flight arrived early morning and we were allowed to check in at 8:30 am which was very kind because we could put our luggage down and collect ourselves. The room itself was small compared to other hotels but well kept. The bathroom had a crack in the shower guard slightly flooding our already small bathroom but all in all the service was very nice along with a nice restaurant in the hotel. Although slightly expensive, most things in iceland are that way and the fact that it was so close to the airport, not more than a five minute drive, was well worth it in our books.
