Ross Lake Hotel - Oughterard, Ireland 2 star hotel

Address: Oughterard, Oughterard
Ross Lake Hotel details:  Ross Lake House Hotel in Galway is a splendid 19th century Georgian house. Built in 1850, it is formerly an estate house of the landed gentry, who prized its serenity.

Set amidst rambling woods and rolling lawns, it is truly a haven of peace and tranquillity. Calm walks through the untamed Connemara countryside, beautiful unspoilt beaches, championship golf courses, excellent game and coarse fishing are all available nearby for you.

Many good guides have recommended Ross Lake House Hotel in Galway, including The Good Hotel Guide, Johansens, Best Loved Hotels and Relais du Silence. The hotel is also a member of the Green Book of Ireland.

Ross Lake House Hotel, formerly Killaguille estate and one of Connemara's most gracious mid 19th century houses, was built by James Edward Jackson, land agent for Lord Iveagh at Ashford Castle. Killaguille house and its estate comprised of 1,200 acres of land. Subsequently, the land was divided and the house converted into a hotel in 1969 and renamed Ross Lake House because of its close proximity to Ross Lake and the internationally renowned fishing waters of Lough Corrib. The house is surrounded by mature gardens with magnificent trees and has its own tennis court.

We stayed for two nights - out of season - so the hotel was very quiet, but we were made most welcome, and treated almost as if we were members of the family. Excellent food and service. Comfortable and well-appointed bedroom. Very stylish sitting rooms - altogether a very relaxing experience. One which we would be very happy to repeat and to recommend to others.

Friendly hotel, meals excellent, formal (which we liked). Location a challeng to find but easy once you do it. Very very quiet place. The owners were very helpful. A restored old mansion with extensive grounds.
