Clybaun Hotel - Galway, Ireland 

We stayed at this hotel in May 08. There were five couples and 10 children. Found it fantastic place for kids. They had a bouncy castle for children in the open area which was great (this could have been special because of a communion weekend). We were able to stay in the wide corridor with huge leather sofas and armchairs until late in the evening with the children. We all ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent. The tea and coffee facilities were hidden under the TV in our large family room. Had everything we needed. No soap in the bathroom was a bit weird but we used the shower gel/soap provided. All in all a pleasant stay and all couples said it would be a good place to revisit especially with children as it was only 3-5 mins drive from Salthill itself.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights to visit friends who lived nearby at Christmas who recommended it to us. They had used the pool and gym but hadn't stayed in the rooms. When we saw our room our initial thoughts were positive but when we looked closer we realised a few bulbs were blown in the lamps, the furniture was cheap, stained and chipped, the carpet was torn in places, the walls were dirty and had scratch marks on them. When we returned one night there was a blood like sustance on the floor of the elevator and in front of it on the ground floor - it looked like it had dried in. I said it to the girl at reception who advised me (in a dismissive way) that she was already aware of it as previous guests had informed her. The next morning this was cleaned up. Breakfast was quite expensive if it wasn't covered in your room rate, think it was about ?14 per person. The price you pay is great value for a hotel in Galway, but you'll have to endure the cheapness of this place. To sum it up - I won't be returning.
