Have you stayed here ?
Will never stay there again!! And I've told everyone I know about it!

I was staying in the Berkely court the day before my wedding. I had 3 rooms booked, one for me and my sister, one for my parents and one for my other two bridesmaids. They put me and my family in two rooms, right above the reception room where another wedding was taking place. The noise level from the band and dj was unbareable, and as all brides will know, the wedding day is a long day and you need to be well rested for it! I requested another room, far away from the wedding party. The answer was (on very bad english) that they could not move me, unless I paid for an upgrade with an extra cost of €200. In the end, they cleaned up 2 other rooms but we couldn't move our things into the new rooms until 00.30 am!! We didn't get any assistance in moving our things (which was a lot!). During the night the wedding party continued in the room opposite mine, from 3 am to 4.30am until, after a number of calls to reception to ask the happy (and very loud) guests to a) move into their rooms instead of singing in the corridor and to b) keep the noise down. So after getting only about 4 hours of sleep, I had to get up for breakfast and I was so tired I could not care at all about the wedding, I just wanted to sleep. On the wedding day, a number of our friends stayed in the hotel as well. One of them, a very slim, blonde swedish girl, came up to the reception desk to check in. Right then and there, they offered to upgrade her, without any request from her, from the standard double room to a suite. For free. The suite normally costs about €350 and is fantastic. In general, except for 2 irish staff, the rest of the staff can barely speek english and are very unaccomodating and unfriendly. And I will always remember as the Berkeley court as being a horrible experience, despite it's beautiful foyer.

My Favourite Dublin Hotel

I have stayed at the Berkeley Court on numerous occasions and although they have some problems, I always return! It's old world five star, a little dated in places but really a lovely warm hotel. I had the best lunch of my life in their main dining room... The staff are great, real dubs, and always good for a laugh, not to mention very hospitable. I am a priority guest member and I have complained soo many times about my "preferences" (the whole idea of the scheme) not being saved in their system, the complimentary newspaper has never happened and not once have I been offered an upgrade on my room, despite having a priority guest card! Having said all that ... I always get a great rate and I've never paid more than €120 for a room (incl parking) Although I have issues.... I still love it!

I booked the hotel direct through Jury's website. I use Jury's frequently and decided to go for the Berkely Court this time because there was a great deal with it and the luxury of five stars enticed me. However, not a sight of five star standard did I see. The lobby is nice, but more like a four star, and this is as good as it gets. The room was tiny and the furniture and bathroom had quite a few miles on the clock. I have stayed in Jury's four star Burlington and would rate that as superior, more comfortable and better value than the Berkeley Court. It would have been a perfectly adequate stay in a three star hotel. But this hotel would struggle to get four stars, in my opinion, never mind the alleged five star rating. If it's just a hotel you're looking for and you get a good deal, by all means stay here. But, if it's five star luxury you seek, look elsewhere.

Wonderful Stay

After reading some of the reviews we were a little apprehensive, especially when we also read that the Berkeley Court is being torn down for apartments in Spring 2007. However, we need not have worried at all. We got a taxi direct from the airport for 4 of us it was ~30 euros. After that we got the 3 day dart ticket as the hotel is only a couple of minutes walk from the Lansdowne Road Dart station - 3 stops from the central 'Tara' dart station. We never walked to the centre although it is a straightforward journey of around 20/25 mins. The hotel lobby is very impressive and is a wonderful place to relax. The bar area is great too with a flame fire, wonderful for relaxing after the evening meal with liquers and coffee. We ate at the Palm Court bistro and from the food to the service this was an excellent experience. I did not think that was too pricey as some other reviewers have stated but maybe this is a question of what you are used to paying. Here in the UK for a 5 star hotel we have paid a lot more for an evening meal and the price of the wine at the Berkeley was very reasonable compared to some of the charges back here in the UK in the same sort of (and even lesser) establishments. The breakfasts were brilliant (also taken in the Palm Court). Freshly squeezed orange juice, a fantastic array of fruit, breads, croissants, danish pastries, muffins. Besides a full irish breakfast you could also have omelettes, kippers and a couple of other choices, I'm not big on cooked breakfasts so didn't take much notice of the cooked alternatives. There was also smoked salmon, a selection of meats and cheeses with coffee/tea and toast. It was by far one of the best breakfasts/choices we have had in Ireland. The rooms were large with lovely clean bathrooms, safes, ironing board/iron, multi channel TV, including all 3 Sky Sports channels, 3 x telephones (!), two large chairs and table with stacks of drawer and wardrobe space with plenty of hangers. They also provide bathrobes and slippers. Of course there are the usual array of soaps, shampoos, body lotions, etc. Turndown service at night with fresh towels supplied was a lovely touch. One of the previous reviewers mentioned the Four Seasons as another 5 star hotel in the same area (they also mentioned that it was across the road - NOT!!). We took the 15 minute walk to this hotel and we would agree that is a beautiful hotel and probably just pips the Berkeley in the stars stakes. However, we got a great deal (being just before Xmas) and were very happy with the Berkeley, slightly more relaxed atmosphere than the Four Seasons. We had a very relaxing stay at the Berkeley with wonderful service and would recommend this hotel to anyone, it is just a shame that they are pulling it down - what a waste!

Fantastic Stay!

I spent four days in Dublin with my husband and 22 month old daughter. We stayed at the Berkeley Court because it was away from the noise of the city center, yet the hotel was easily accessible by bus. The hotel was very clean and they provided us with a pack and play for our daughter to sleep. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We booked the hotel directly through their website. Our stay included breakfast, which was a great buffet of hot and cold items. The wait staff was extremely curteous and gave us hot chocolate for our daughter each morning along with our coffee. The only problem was that we had a slight issue with the restaurant - they ran out of some of their menu items. I settled on a pasta dish, but it was missing the cherry tomatos that were in the description. Also, we ate a late lunch in the bar area one day and the waitress brought me the wrong sandwich. She disappeared before I could say anything, and since we were in a bit of a rush, I ate the sandwich anyway. All in all, a great hotel in a very charming city. Thanks!
