We stayed at the Dergvale for 2 nights last week and had the worst stay in any hotel we have ever been to. The rooms were outdated and grotty, the carpets were filthy and the bedding had holes in and looked like it belonged in the 1970s. The bathroom mirror light had a loose connection and kept going off, I told the manager and he said he would fix it, it was finally fixed late in the evening the day before we went home. There was supposed to be an iron in every room (according to the website) but there wasn't, this was a pain as we took a lot of unironed clothes thinking we could iron them in our room. The breakfast room had about 6 tables for 21 rooms and guests had to wait up to 45 minutes in the hotel lounge whilst other guests finished their breakfasts. The breakfast was inadequate for us as we are veggie and there was very little choice, we also had to wait some time for our food, our coffee was brought at the end of breakfast rather than when we were eating. I asked for a pot of coffee one night and when it arrived the milk was sour, I ended up chucking it down the sink as it was undrinkable. The bed was very uncomfortable and the mattress had springs sticking out all over the place, we had hardly any sleep during our stay, this was not helped by the paper thin walls and the noise of children playing outside until late in the evening. We also had to have the heater on as the room was freezing, even though it was mid-June. We paid ?100 a night for this hotel and that's a disgrace. I know Dublin is expensive but we have stayed in several hotels in the city over the years and paid a lot less for much better accommodation. All in all the Dergvale is a disgrace and needs to be brought into the 21st century, either that or drop it's prices drastically. I would urge anyone to look elsewhere when staying in Dublin.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at Dergvale. I have read other reviews and I do agree with some but not others. Hotel is dated and does need a refurb but the two rooms we booked were quite nice, both were clean and showers were good. I was disappointed to find no tea tray in the room as I had not packed a travel kettle. Breakfast was advertised on the website as full Irish but only consisted of 2 eggs, 2 rashers of bacon and 2 sausages. We never saw beans, mushrooms or tomatoes for the 3 breakfasts we had. Only choice was how eggs were cooked, boiled, scrambled, fried or poached. Also had orange juice and cereal or porridge, plenty of toast and tea or coffee but I did feel the fry up was a bit on the mean side. Nice hotel bar and the staff were friendly but for ?100 a night per room I think if I return I would look for somewhere else to stay. It was also annoying that guests are not given a key to the front door which is always locked so you have to ring the bell every time you come in although there is someone on duty 24 hours to open door.
