Andrassy Hotel Budapest - Budapest, Hungary     

This is a nice hotel. We had a spacious, quiet room. The hotel is on Andrassy, which provides convient access to the subway system. It is a little removed from the heart of the city, which has some advantages (its in a quiet neighborhood) and disadvantages (not much in the way of restaurants within close walking distance). The restaurant on the premisis, Baraka, is overpriced. The staff was friendly and helpful.

We booked this hotel as a romantic getaway to celebrate my girlfriends birthday, and we were not disappointed by the Andrassy hotel in the slightest. After a nightmare journey from the airport to the hotel (no non-euro cash machines working in the airport meant we had to withdraw euros and exchange them at a rip-off rate to pay for a transfer - hint - get some currency before you travel) we were welcomed with a lovely glass of champagne and friendly staff. The hotel is really nicely decorated and our room was large, clean, modern but tasteful and we had a lovely big balcony overlooking Andrassy street. The balcony would have been used more if there were tea / coffee making facilities in the room but they were strangely missing and that is the only bad thing i could say about this hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, always saying hello or goodbye to us as we arrived at or left the hotel. We found the bar / restaurant downstairs to be a nice place to sit and have a drink. It was slightly expensive but the cocktails were nice. We didn't eat there but the food looked nice. The location is excellent, very close to Hero's Square and all of the main attractions are walkable although we used the very cheap, efficient and amusing (listen to the chimes when the train arrives at a station) underground - the station is about 2 minutes walk from the hotel. It cost around 50p for a journey to Vaci Ulta. Budapest is a lovely city, far larger than I expected, there was lots to do and we felt safe walking the streets at all hours. Our trip was made better by our lovely base at the Andrassy Hotel.
