Great Experience

Me with my wife stayed at Aquinqum on October 2007 on an executive room. The experience was great with this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpfull. We arrived early in the morning at the hotel because of our flight and been offered free breakfast which by the way was exceptional. Room was spacious and clean. On the day we left we were offered a late check-out until 4pm without charge as our flight was at 9 pm. The location is not central but this is not bad as Margrit island which is nearby offers plenty of time for relaxation as well as quietness. The great public transportation system of Budapest can get you downtown in no more than 15 minutes and with minimal cost. Highly reccomended!!!

Not that near to the centre of Buda - or Pest - but you can easily get on to Margaret Island from here. Plus, do see the Girls with Umbrellas in nearby Obuda - and the Roman remains (beneath the flyover!). Hotel is modern, good facilities, good breakfast - but the great thing is the thermal pool...

You Can Probably Do Better

Fundamentally, other negative reviews are true. Here were my experiences in 2 days: * Very poorly trained people ... how can you ask someone working at a "5 star" SPA for a towel and they suggest you go back to your room and retrieve one from there? ABSURD! * Overly priced food and services ... I had 1 solo dinner, which was very average, for nearly $50 (1 appetizer, 1 entree, 2 beers). A Coke at the bar poured from a 6oz bottle was nearly $6. Bottled water in room was $8 each. Cuban cigars were more expensive than the fine to smuggle them in from duty-free at airport. * Mediocre rooms ... beds were lumpy with concave shape and room service did nothing more than drag sheets and pillows back into position. Beyond wierd! Overall, I was there for 2 days and only had 1 solo dinner. With Euro to USD conversion at 1.36, my stay cost over $400 for essentially very few amenities. I could have done better with blind sample from Hotels.com Referring to this property as '5 star' is insulting to a real property that strives for a hi level of customer satisfaction. Do not book this property ... pick another Spa.
