Gold Hotel Panzió welcomes tired travellers with flowers in the warm and homely atmosphere created by the tiny street's tidy white houses. We are waiting for you in the green part of Budapest, next to the downtown but far from the noise. You can easily reach the business and entertainment centre, the Convention Centre (BNV) and the City Park, where are famous museums, the popular Széchenyi Thermal Bath and the Heroe's Square with our past kings. Here is all the fun for children and several surprises for adults (Zoo, Fun Park, Circus and boating).

You can simply and quickly reach your destination by bus (no. 25) or by traditional vehicles: choose the first underground in Europe (100 years old yellow line), the trolley buses (no. 74, 74/A), and the trams (no. 62, 69). The hotel is easily accessible from the Andrássy, the Hungária streets and from the M3 motorway.

I have just returned from a 3 night stay. I chose this Hotel because I was led to believe from the description that it was close to the Sports Stadium, where I was to spend 2 days. It wasn't. I knew it was out of town but it was a long way from the Stadium as well. The positive comments are that the staff were friendly and it was in a quiet area. Initially, the hotel appeared very clean as it smelt of bleach. However, my room smelt horrible, especially the bathroom. The beds are very small singles with plastic on the mattress so it rustles and is not that comfortable. Breakfast was poor in that I had to ask for a bowl for cereal, there was no bread and the cheese and meat was running low, although replenished when asked. The coffee was barely lukewarm. I didn't bother after the first day. The bar, although it looks the part, had hardly any stock! My friend and I asked for 3 different drinks at 9.30pm and they had none. The bar prices are all out of date as well, even if they'd had anything to serve! A word of warning if you do stay at his hotel and have to leave early to get to the airport. The front door was locked and initially I thought I'd have to try and wake everyone up to get out. I then remembered there was a back door which was open but led to a back yard and a closed garage door out to the street. After pushing every button I could see (in the dark), I finally managed to get out. A taxi costs about ?15 each way but you can walk across the park for about 15 minutes to get to the metro but you will need to change lines to get into the city centre. There is a bus stop nearby. All in all, an unpleasant stay but many people have found it OK, this is just my experience. If you are used to better quality hotels, then don't book this one.

Stayed in Budapest for 4 nights at the Gold Hotel. Lovely little hotel and very friendly staff. We had one of the attic rooms on the 4th floor. Couldn't fault it at all and the housekeeping was very good also. There is no lift at this hotel, which didn't bother us but I just thought I would mention it. This hotel was quite a way from the city centre - a good 25 minute walk to the metro (you can take the bus if you prefer - we didn't). On reflection the walk was good as the food in Budapest was fantastic and therefore is was nice to have a good walk at the end of the evening. The lady on reception was very helpful and friendly and even booked some tickets for us for the opera, after finding out what was on and when. There was a large choice for breakfast, the usual Continental breakfast, but don't forget the Europeans eat differently to us. Overall we thought is was a very quaint and friendly hotel.
