perfectly centrally located, with a front nice view upon a large tree-filled square, hotel palace for western standards does not deserve its 4th star: it's old-fashioned, some decoration is beautiful and original turn of the century, some is very dull and dark 1970's, some is tacky 1980's. rooms are adequate, offer A/C and minibar, a good bathroom. breakfast offered is buffet-style and very varied and copious. breafkast room however is tackily decorated and windowless. service provided is coldish to correct. prices quite expensive even for western standards.

Stayed in the Palace for 3 nights on a business trip. Location is excellent, in the center of the city. The hotel is historic, and the lobby has a bit of an old, but renovated, stylish look. Rooms are neat and clean with all the necessary amenities, but otherwise unremarkable. Beds in a standard room are essentially twin sized beds, which weren't ideal, but were comfortable enough. Breakfast buffet was good - simple, plentiful, and in a nice atmosphere. It is also available from 6-10 AM, which suits many different schedules. All in all, this hotel was excellent for business travel. A vacationer, particularly a family, might not enjoy the hotel as much; aside from the location, it doesn't offer anything particularly exciting for a tourist. One tip - if taking a taxi from the airport, simply let the hotel negotiate it for you; they charge a fixed rate of 170 kunas, whereas picking up a cab on one's own can easily run upwards of 200 kuna.
