Stayed for 3 nights at the Westin in November and was thoroughly impressed. Suited to both the business professional and tourist alike, the Westin almost didn't seem suited to Eastern-block Zagreb! Marble floors, excellent & friendly service - if you're staying in Zagreb look into staying here. A 10 minute walk from the main square, the hotel is also within walking-distance of all the tourist spots. The rooms were clean and comfortable, complete with amazing views due to the hotel's height (it towers above other buildings in this part of the city). Room service is quick and good value and prices in general were very agreeable, except the hotel bar where you should expect to pay over the odds. Finally, the spa is also worth a visit - plunge pool, sauna, steam room and pool, etc! You need to pay for the use of the rooms, but the pool is completely free and is a calming place to relax after a day wandering around Zagreb! No real negatives apart from attempting to get served in the hotel bar - a somewhat difficult skill. At times, I was kept waiting for 20 minutes at a quiet bar whilst the waitress wandered around doing just about anything other than serving someone! If you're in Zagreb, look up the Westin as you will be pleasantly suprised.

The hotel is very close to the center of the city, the Mimara museum is across the street and the national theatre is two blocks away. We arrived by bus from the airport and took tram 2 (tram &bus tickets are sold at the newspaper stand just right outside the bus station.). Six stops later we were near the hotel, we just turned right around the corner and crossed the street. Check-in (as well as check-out) took a few minutes. The hotel building is more than 30 years old but was completely renovated a few years ago. Our room and bathroom on the twelfth flooor were spacious and clean with a comfortable bed. The rooms only had one problem: the windows were not sound-proof; late evening traffic noise was therefore annoying and disturbing. Breakfast offered a great choice of breads, pastries, cheeses, cold cuts, leaf tea instead of tea bags and fresh and canned fruits - although some fresh fruits, e.g., prunes and nectarines were out-of-season and they should not be presented on the buffet. Service was attentive. A suggestion for dinner: the Italian restaurant Gallo in the Hebrangova street, just 4 blocks away serves excellent and tasteful meals for dinner.
