Location
This formerly maritime oriented town, just 7 kilometres west of Opatija, today is the boutique destination of the Riviera, with a number of exclusive and renovated villas dating back to the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, such as the Villas Frappart, Astra, Eugenija, Magnolija and Blankenstein This significant tourism destination began to develop at virtually the same time as Opatija.
With the two city beaches Peharovo and Kvarner, there are a number of smaller beaches and suntanning areas, and the well known Orthopaedic Clinic is situated in Lovran, reminding us of the tradition of health care tourism.
The main attractions of Lovran, once a well known maritime and trading city, include the still visible remnants of the city walls, the gates to the harbour which were once closed at night and the restored medieval tower which is now home to the Maritime Museum and the gallery of world renowned painter Charles Billich. The Church of St. George has a separate Romanesque bell tower, and its interior was painted in a specific artistic manner.

My wife and I stayed here from the 3rd to the 10th
of October 2007. What a good choice of hotel this
was the room was very clean as was the rest of the
hotel. The staff were very attentive, and spoke very good
English. The food was more than adequate. And was
buffet style. We had a sea view room. I would recomend
this as the road was noisy. Would we return to this hotel ?.
Yes.

We stayed here at the end of August for a cheap get away. We arrived with Easy Jet (late at night and an hour over due) and caught the airport bus into Rijeka. This is very easy and the bus waits until the airport is empty. It costs 20kr each and takes about 40 mins. It will drop you in the centre of the town opposite the taxi rank. The taxis are metred and at past midnight it cost us 90kr into Lovran which is pretty much what he had quoted. If you arrive in the day you can catch the local bus from another bus station about a 5 minute walk which will drop you outside the door for 36kr each and will take 45 minutes.
The hotel check in is very efficient and all the staff on reception speak fluent German, English and Italian. Generally in the Lovran area if people dont speak English they all speak German. The area is very pretty and the hotel is at the top of the hill going into the village. It is next to the Hotel Lovran and the Bristol ( which looks from the outside pretty but inside the guts have been ripped out from what we could see) The decor is slightly 80s but is exceptionally clean. The rooms are large with modern bathrooms and strong showers. I would suggest a room facing the sea if you are a light sleeper.
The breakfast is basic but you can eat as much as you want. We were 1/2 board and tended to see what the buffet looked like each day before deciding if to walk into the village. The buffet offers a good choice - better than local restaurants - and actually tastes better than it looks. Alcohol is fairly priced and there is a good cocktail bar.
There is a kids club but to be honest I wouldnt recommend this hotel or area if you have young energetic kids. There is very little to do in the village except swim - off concrete slabs - watch the currents - or fish. The pools were very clean, the indoor one is heavily clorinated. You have to pay for sunloungers and umbrellas and bring extra towels. The hotel says it has a private beach - I think this is slightly misleading as its about 2 metres by 1 metre the rest are concrete slabs that you sunbathe on. We were the youngest in the hotel by about 20 years (36 and 43 yrs old) and there is a sing along with the hammond organ 2 nights a week!. The tourists there are maninly German and Italian
You are next to a strip joint but we never heard or saw a thing so not a problem. You can walk to the nearest large town on a sea path in about 1 1/hrs. The quality of the restaurants in the village varied but they all effectively serve the same menu. I would say at times you pay for the view and most expensive definately does not equate with tastest food. I felt it was a fair price to pay for a quiet weeks holiday which is what we wanted.
