Good
Wanchai area Empire Hotel

Empire Hotel is: Clean and Secure/safe Has courteous, friendly English speaking staff - doormen were nice, fast service at the desk Concierge went out of his way when asked, you must be prepared to ask several times but then he went above and beyond to get a hard to find address and call the place for me. Rooms are a reasonable size with lots of hot water No alarm clocks - wake up call automated in English and right on time Rooms are quiet and you cannot hear others through the walls Very convenient for everything - Right outside the door is 7-11. Circle K for grabbing something quick, lots of pubs, bars, nightclubs for tourists, coffee shop across street with internet access if you buy something. Good fast authentic restaurants plus Indian, Greek, McDonalds, Outback Steakhouse, Mexican, pubs and all within a 2 minute walk or view of hotel. Grocery store is one street over too. Wanchai MTR station only less than 5 minute walk. Buses 1 street over. My only concern was that when booking the pool was not listed as seasonal so was closed the day after I arrived. Also, the fitness center had been closed the month before I booked but that also was not posted in advance so be sure to check if you plan to have a fitness routine. There is a nearby California Fitness center (no pool but sauna) for $* HK a day.

Horrible
Terrible, Rude

The front desk staff are among the rudest people we've ever met. We knew this was an inexpensive hotel, so the mold in the room didn't both us that much. Nor did the mildew on the windows...nor the hard-as-a-rock bed...nor the airconditioning that couldn't be changed. But the obnoxious front desk is another story. Avoid, avoid, avoid. There are many other hotels in HK that will give you better value for money.

Lockout Blackmail

WARNING I had booked one night for Hkg $ 1400 nett and was prepared for the tiny Hkg room-- I was required to stay an extra night and I was Locked Out and told the new rate for the extra night was $1600 plus 15% approx = $ 1920 PLUS $520 being an increase of 47% I stood my ground and after 45 minutes a Special Rate of $ 1400 was Supervisor authorised to be entered - Worst hotel experience - I will be sending a copy of this to the Hong Kong Tourist Board

My wife and I stayed here for a week in January. The room was small but clean. The bed was comfortable. It is in a great location and we found the staff to be helpful.
