For those who seek peace and quiet, the coast continues onto Almyros Beach, Agios Spyridon Bay, with its traditional little taverns, and the wind-protected Kalamaki. Traditions, religious faiths and various celebrations are closely associated with the people's devotion, their customs, work, agonies and hopes. The spring processions to honour the churches and the Holy Easter are a one-of-a-kind experience. Choirs and devotees, as well as sacred heirlooms against the landscape, compose a celestial parade, intended to purify the human soul. The Monastery of Pantokrator, built on the mountain top in 1347, with the labour of people from the 23 villages of the area, was totally ruined in the 16th century. The present church was built in the same place during the late 17th century. Uphill, the Old Perithia is an excellent example of architecture and measure. The village has stone mansions, numerous churches and mystic alleys, retaining its charm and keeping the aura of the Venetian Era intact.
