Cumberland Hotel - Edinburgh, United Kingdom     

Stayed here recently........paid through the nose for a minging, tiny, cramped room! The only plus point is that its within 10 minutes of Princes Street! We struggled to find any staff when we checked in, the place was deserted! Were allocated the room right next to the front door and reception, heard all comings and goings including some german bloke trying to get in at 3am! Gave breakfast a miss because the kitchen is only open for 1 hour 8am-9am, even on a Sunday! Quickly checked out and left, probably never to go back again. There is absolutely no way that this hotel should be classed as 4 star, the furniture was all mismatched and broken and the bed was very uncomfortable!! The hotel is in serious need of an overhaul and i wouldnt recommend anyone stay there!

I had not seen the previous reviews on this website prior to visitng this hotel, though had I, I perhaps would not have visited. However, whilst certainly not a fantastic hotel (it is really just a B&B) I experienced no problems. The prices seem high, but this can bee explained by the hotel's proximity to central Edinburgh. The rooms are perfectly acceptable and clean. The staff were friendly (though occasionally amusing - language differences) and if I was on a budget I would consider visiting again. The breakfasts were however quite poor. The prepacked cheese slice that formed part of the "continetal breakfast" being the real low point.
