Hotel De La Paix - Lille, France 

We stayed at Hotel de la Paix in Lille for a long weekend in May 2008. We travelled to Lille by Eurostar and, as long as your suitcase is not to heavy, you could walk to the hotel from the station rather than catch a taxi. It is very central. We stayed in Room 12, which was roomy and clean. It was at the back of the hotel and was very quiet. The room had TV., mini-bar and hairdryer. The toilet was separate from the bathroom. We were travelling with three other couples who, apparently did not have such a large room as us and one did not have a min-bar in the room. Two couples did not have a shower curtain round their over-the-bath shower. Breakfast was adequate but nothing special. The hotel bar stays open until you decide to go to bed, which was very handy. Check-out was 12 noon but we were able to leave the case behind reception until we were ready to catch our train back home. The hotel did not have a restaurant but we were recommended a different restaurant each night (which were all very good). This is a small basic hotel. It was cheap, clean and in a great location. If that’s all you are looking for, then it’s a good choice.

Very comfortable clean rooms and ideally situated. We would return and recommend, as it is very good value. Our only slight moan was the breakfast that we felt could have been made a little more exciting with a minimum of effort. Also the coffee was awful (unless you like it with a hint of metal) but the hot chocolate that I had after the first day was delightful.
