Inter-Hotel De Gramont - Pau, France 

I stayed four nights in this charming little hotel in the heart of Pau, nearby the Castle. When booking this hotel I asked for the superior twin room overlooking the square and this room I was given. The room was elegantly furnished with antiques and comfortable beds. The medium-sized bathroom contained a tub/shower combination. Unfortunately this room had no air-conditioning, but a fan. The breakfast was ok and served in our room. The management was very kind and helpful.

I stayed at the Hotel De Gramont one night. The location was superb. Just one block from the old town and the Chateau. The staff were wonderful. They took the time to print maps to help me find 2 golf courses and the directions back to Bordeaux. When I first arrived in my car, there was no parking and I double parked just to off load the bags. The staff moved one of their cars so I could park for the night (for free). The level of service from the staff at this hotel was top notch! The room: I had a room on the top floor so the ceilings were lower with 2 dormer windows. It was large with an american queen sized bed plus an additional single (good for a family). Bathroom had a sink, shower (no tub). It was clean, basic. I could hear hallway noise as fellow travelers came home, but that's the norm for such hotels. This is where to stay in Pau because of 1) location 2) kind service from the staff. You won't find a Ritz Carlton in this town, the rooms were completely comfortable and I can't imagine there's something substantially better in another part of town that would warrant foregoing the location of the Gramont and the level of personal attention you'll get here.
