Location

The island of Aegina, in the middle of the Saronic Gulf (17 nautical miles south west of Piraeus), has been at the crossroads of cultures and rival actions for many thousands of years, from the mythical Aiakeans to the World War II. Despite its small area (83 km²), it offers great variety and has no reason to feel jealous of other cosmopolitan islands. The island is easily accessible by either ferry boats or hydrofoils. Timetables are displayed at the various ticket offices on the quay.

Day and night, there is varied entertainment to be found in the outdoor coffee shops, internet cafes (50 metres) taverns and night clubs. Plenty of outdoor activities such as water sports, fishing, yachting, swimming, canoeing, windsurfing and pedal boats are organised from the beach. Scuba diving and tennis are available nearby. You can also take a walk in the surrounding woods or visit the water park (12 km).

Renting a car in Aegina is a must if you want to tour the countryside and explore the island's attractions. Car hire gives you the freedom to explore this amazing area at your own pace.

Aegina is the nearest island to Athens and famous historical sites and monuments such as the Acropolis, Delphi and Corinth Canal are within easy reach. Voula’s Apartments are situated only 20 to 30 minutes by taxi or bus from Aegina’s port, from where daily transportation to and from Piraeus (the port of Athens) leaves. For local sightseeing, the 5th century BC Temple of Aphaia, an interesting ancient monument with wonderful views over the Saronic Gulf, is only 2 kilometres away. Aegina offers the archaeological site of Kolona (Temple of Apollo) with Aegina’s museum, Kapralos Museum, Mount Oros, Aghios Nektarios Monastery, Moni Island and more.
