Hotel Deutscher Kaiser - Baden-Baden, Germany 

Over the year I have become a bit risk-wary in my choice of hotels, normally preferring to stay in the well-known chain hotels with good reviews. In Baden-Baden there was not much of a choice in the affordable range of places to stay, so I ended up more or less by chance in the Deutscher Kaiser. Upon arrival we were shown two rooms: the first was smallish with a window facing the street (which is quiet throughout the day, but even more so in the eveing when it is closed off for traffic), while the second was quite a bit bigger, on the back side of the hotel, and with a balcony. Decoration was the same in both: not particularly tasteful, but decently furnitured, flat-screen tv, well-maintained, clean. The room with the balcony was definately worth the rate. Beds were a bit on the hard side, but still within the limits of being fine. Breakfast in the morning was perfectly adequate, and is included in the rate. The best thing about this hotel is the location: right in the middle of the centre, within easy walking distance to everything. The hotel has its own car park on the back, charging 5 euros per day which is excellent value considering the effort it costs to find a public parking space on the streets. The worst thing is probably the hotel lobby: a small and cramped place. But the good news is that apart from check-in and check-out you don't have to spend any time there. Would recommend this hotel for travellers who want to stay one or two nights in the heart of Baden-Baden without paying a fortune, but nonetheless enjoy a hotel that is better than budget standard.

Centrally located and with Internet, this hotel is a great budget find in the otherwise expensive town of Baden-Baden. Breakfast is included in the rate (certainly a money saver) and is served directly by the owners of the hotel. I had a booked a triple room since it was cheaper than a double and single, but upon arrival, the owner gave us the double and single for the same rate! The furnishings are certainly a little 1970s, but everything is clean and we had a very nice flat panel TV in our room. Walking distance to everything important and owners helpful in directing you around town. Would stay here again!
