Having worked out after booking I had booked the Hotel Brazil Inn and not the Brazil Hotel I read a number of bad reviews for the
'Inn.'
I was starting to panic a little as our stay got closer, worrying about the reported presence of prostitutes, sex shops and the hotel being in a generally dangerous area.
My partner and I decided to stick with our choice and simply ditch the hotel for another if it really was that bad.
We were pleasantly surprised when we got off the metro and walked past a few cafes, and shops in the square and then onto the hotel.
It is a more than manageable 5mins walk (even with a 65ltr rucksack) through an area no different in reality to most larger Greek towns: dusty buildings, abandoned buildings and cars (Greece is littered with these!) and grafitti'd walls.
At night it felt safe and I would be happy to have walked without my partner. However, this maybe because I have previously visited Athens alone and lived in Volos Having also visited most of the Greek islands we know what to expect in Greece.
Whilst I cannot deny there is a sex video shop just around the corner from the hotel it is in no way intrusive on your walking to and from the hotel.
Our room was clean, very spacious and being located just 2 Metro stops from the Plaka, an absolute bargain at 45Euros a night. We could not thank the staff enough as they were amongst the most helpful I have encountered in any hotel, anywhere in the world.
We would not hesitate to stay at the hotel again.
