Strangely, although we came as 5 individuals, some of having already paid, the hotel appeared as overbooked and 2 of us were 'upgraded' had to stay in different hotels in the neibourghood...
the room was tight. we were provided with two small sofa convertibles instead of a proper twin or double bed. the frontdesk staff was not helpful. a person from the inside office was more helpful. obtaining information from the staff was like an ordeal for them.
I booked to Crystal City Hotel but when I wanted to check in I was said that my booking was to an other hotel (Crystal City Gold). So I had to leave and find the other hotel where there was no parking possibility provided by the hotel. The surronding area was also noisy and dirty.
Similar to the experience of those who wrote the June 28 and June 29 reviews, we booked a room at the Crystal City Hotel for 3 nights in early July, 2008. First, they had no record of our reservation, and we had to pull out a piece of paper showing that we had reserved the room through Expedia. They acted very surprised that we did indeed have a reservation. They told us (and the people before us and after us) a story about how a group of school childrens' flight was canceled and therefore they had to provide the children a room that night instead of us. They shipped us to another hotel (Golden City Hotel, 46, Marni str.) a few blocks away in a much worse location. The hotel was okay but not on a nice square like the Crystal City Hotel. Sounds like this is a good hotel and location, but they need to stop deceiving their customers.
Crystal City Hoax! Posted: Sat, Jul 19 2008 This hotel is a complete hoax. Not only they failed to provide us the requested room.
They even charged my credit card TWO months later (to catch me offguard I suppose)
even though we have not stayed there.
It was a graduation trip with my family.
Crystal City Hotel is supposed to be the last stop for our 5 days Greece Trip.
What an awful ending it was! We reached there and the reception lady told us
the triple room is not available. (We booked 2 double and 1 triple)
Hence they offered us to move to Golden City Hotel, which they claimed as same class. As we have no clues how good
or bad (prob bad!) and we checked the map and noticed it was in the middle of nowhere,
(we need to be near metro station as we have loads of luggages), we declined the suggestion
and started negotiating.
In the meantime, I rushed to the neighbouring Apollo Hotel, and luckily they still had 3 rooms.
Now, we said we were going to leave. The manager found us and now miraculous said they could
find a triple room for us after half an hour of negotiation. Not being treated as a fool,
we left anyway. They promised they will not charge my credit card.
We actually walked by Golden City Hotel deliberately to check it out. It certainly looked less grand,
in a worse location, and we doubt it is the same class. Even if it is, we are certain it will be less
attractive. The conclusion is they deliberately overbooked the Crystal City Hotel by offering
competitive price and then send the customer to Golden. At least I thought that is the end of story.
Then I receive a big surprise TWO months later. They are cunning enough they charged us through
the booking agency to claim a "no-show" instead of charging us right afterwards.
So I sent an e-mail to the hotel, no reply. Another e-mail to the agency, no reply.
I called the agency and they said they received no notification from the hotel and they charged
me automatically and they will contact the hotel about the incident. As I writing this,
they still yet to contact me back and I wonder why it took so long for those people to
write a reply e-mail. Too bad it is very expensive to call to Greece from the country where I am staying.
I am still trying to resolve this issue!
NEVER consider Crystal City Hotel, and you may as well cross out Golden City Hotel
as they are sisters hotel.
