"A good base for seeing Athens"

This hotel's proximity to the Athens airport terminal and metro makes it a surprisingly good base for sightseeing in Athens. The metro is modern, clean, cheap and quick into Athens - with only the last part of the journey being crowded. The hotel itself is well designed, quiet and well equipped. Food prices are expensive - but good meals are available in the airport terminal or metro station at cheaper prices. The roof-top pool is too cool. Check-in can get crowded when passengers turn up at once. Compared to downtown Athens hotels, the airport Sofitel seems a good bet.

When we reserved this hotel we have specifically chosen the rate that included Free Internet Access, as advertised. When we checked in, the receptionist told us that they have free Internet access in a lobby for 15 minutes only. To have Internet in a room we had to pay additional 18 Euros. Even when we have shown our reservation to hotel manager (who didn't introduce himself) they didn't honor it. The general attitude of the hotel management and stuff was inflexible and narrow-minded. They insisted on risking the reputation of their hotel chain for 18 Euros! And they blamed an Internet booking site for this false advertisement.

"We booked this room due to a 7AM flight back to the US. The hotel is directly across from the airport and we turned in our rental car and were able to walk to the airport. The location was perfect. The rooms are tired and the halways are in need of being redone.. The carpets in the halways were dirty and stained. The wallpaper was torn and discolored...it's really a sin. The rooms are small, even by European standards. . With a little work this hotel could be back to its original 5 star rating."
