We spent 4 nights at the Stanley in Athens. The Metro (subway) is very easy to reach. It is right on the corner. The Stanley was very clean and the hotel staff was wonderful. I had hurt my foot earlier in the trip and needed a room with a tub and they were very helpful to meet my needs. We loved the roof top bar and pool. The view of the Acropolis was wonderful at night. We felt right at home!!

We stayed at this hotel twice this summer, on our way to and from and language course on an island. We had stayed here before in 2003. That time we stayed at the Stanley because the Electra Palace, where we had stayed in 2001, was closed for renovations. It impressed us as a comfortable basic hotel with a good restaurant with reasonable prices. In 2007 we stayed at the Electra Palace again, largely because of our fond memories of the 2001 trip - while we enjoyed it, we decided that the greatly inflated post renovation price hadn't raised it to a level with it was that many Euros worth better than the Stanley, so we moved back to the Stanley this trip and found it better than before - the breakfast choices seem more varied than we remembered and the rooftop garden restaurant is definitely one of the better dining values in Athens. Our room was quiet, the air conditioner worked well, and we actually spent quite a lot of time in the room and didn't mind the ambience a bit. The staff went out of their way to be accommodating on all of our trips. Re complaints from other reviewers: We used the internet a lot and it was never down, and our room was very clean. Yes the beds are hard - most Greek beds are - the Stanley's beds are as comfortable as any I've slept in in Greece - firm beds are better for the back. The Stanley is a bargain, any way you look at tit.
i booked hotel stanley through my travel agent in istanbul. i was a single female traveler, so i was concerned about safety. metro is just in front of the hotel. i never tried to walk anywhere, but even at night, karaiskaki square looked better than omonoia. i felt completely safe in the neighborhood and the hotel. i stayed 3 nights while i was visiting my greek friends, so i did not spend much time in the hotel. location was my 1st priority and stanley is in a perfect location, 1o min. to downtown and 45 min. to airport with metro. probably it takes 20 min. to walk down to ermou.
the hotel staff speaks english and are helpful. i had no problems with the room. my room was on the 6th floor and was looking to the backyard of the hotel, to many other office buildings. not a pleasant view, but this way i could avoid any street noise. the bad was huge and comfortable. the room comes with a free safe, hair dryer, air conditioning and tv (with greek channels only). the bathroom was small and built in a wrong way because the water from the shower tub kept coming into the room. but the staff cleaned the room every day, so no problem. soap, shampoo, glasses; everything in its place. the hotel was old, but renovated.
the breakfast was not great and huge, but plentiful and tasted good.
there is a swimming pool in the teras with the akropolis view, which i did not have time to see.
i should warn the non-smoking visitors: smoking is not that strictly prohibited in greece. the breakfast room is divided into two for smokers and non-smokers, but there is no separator in between. the rooms are probably not non-smoking. the elevators have ash trays. but this is the same all over athens: everyone is smoking in all restaurants and kafes
