Best Western Hotel Zinon - Athens, Greece 

Stayed here for 5 nights during a work conference with a female colleague and I wouldn't recommend it. We'd read to reviews and they were so mixed we decided not to change hotels at the last minute which was a mistake. I had my purse stolen from my bag at Omonia metro before we'd even checked in - they appear to target travellers with suitcases so beware! The main square and street are fine, just busy Athens. As you turn down the side street upon which the hotel is located its still o.k....until half way down the street it just changes. The atmosphere is a bit ominous, yes definately "ladies of the night" on at least one corner and lots of men hanging around being loud and noisy. We never had any trouble, nor were we ever approached but neither of us would have walked down that street alone. We also made an effort to speak quietly, if at all so it wasn't so obvious that we were English. The hotel is o.k. - nothing special. Paper thin doors, dodgey lifts and I had a great view onto a concrete wall about 6 foot from the window in my room - I didn't open the curtains the whole time I was there. But it was clean, breakfast was more than adequate and the reception guys were friendly and helpful. For a group of guys probably a cheap place to stay but its not romantic and not suitable for girl only groups.
