4We spent three nights in Athens before a cruise, and researched our hotel choices carefully. We decided on Magna Grecia, and were not disappointed. The hotel is across from the square outside the Cathedral, and we enjoyed people-watching from our 2nd floor room. The room was decent size with an acceptable bathroom, and the bed was extremely comfortable. There was free wifi internet in the room. When we were escorted to our room, Maria from the front desk threw open the two huge shuttered windows to reveal a breathtaking view of the Acropolis. Simply magnificent. The breakfast buffet was included and was delicious: poached eggs, meats, cheeses, peaches, pastries and fabulous orange marble cake. We enjoyed the breakfast from the rooftop garden with its Acropolis view. Although the official "bar" section of the outdoor garden is under repair, you can visit the local minimart and purchase ouzo or wine to enjoy under the stars. I'd like to praise Maria for her able answers to any and all questions. She was delightful to work with, and her father, Vasilio, was our cab driver from the airport to the hotel. If you contact Magna Grecia before your visit, Vasilio may be able to pick you up at an affordable rate. After our long-haul air flight it was wonderful to have someone waiting for us, holding a card with our name.
As mentioned by others, the hotel is right in the Plaka, with lots of shopping, sightseeing and historic sites within a short walk.
We recommend Magna Grecia, and will return.
